 Media has reported a mother in Naula forced her two young children to consume poison this morning resulting in the death of one child while the other child is in serious condition. The mother, who had subsequently consumed poison, is also in hospital, the police said. According to the police the two children are aged 10 and 5 while the mother is 30 years of age. The five year old child died on admission to the Matale hospital. The Naula police are conducting further investigations.

 The most vulnerable in every human society are children and women. The above incident was one example among dozen examples that were happened in our society in recent times. In this incident whom we going to tie to any kind of tree. I don't to want to make jokes like some people in power but we have to find a solution.

 The majority of people take these things as very normal occurence because of two reasons one is they have their own problems to deal with and the other thing is loss sensitivity. There were lot of protests against the incident which tide a officer to a mango tree. But are their sombody who go and encourage this man to do a smallest thing making a police complaint. Protests are nothing like shoutings blowing with the wind. If he will face death threats then why his friends, relatives and fellow workers not taking legal steps, why they will not give him protection. Power of people can do anything. But this power might engage in fruitful manner and not be waste in useless things.

 This child poison incident the people who must make a change keep in silence. The religious personell who give much attention to animal slaughter never utter a word against these tragic incidents which happen to their fellow human beings. Not only people who attached to religions but civil society and all other people including media. This was not the first or last and more to come.

 We talk about torture, extrajudicial killings, disapperances and other human rights violations which has committed by the state party. Now what has happened. The mother poisoned her own child, burnt the mouths of her two children  and throw the child to kalu gaga (river) near the most sacred Kalutara Bodhiya.(temple) Something we have missed in our society. If we will not find it or solve it we will loose ourselves very soon.

 These children are our future leaders. We do everything directly or indirectly to them. We work for a better society which will be owned by these children tomorrow.
